Good Deals- Truckee River Fishing Report- Pyramid Lake Fishing Report- 2-1-15

On the the Truckee River the same old same old. High pressure off the coast the last 5 weeks has kept conditions calm, stagnant, and balmy for mid-winter in the Tahoe-Truckee-Reno area. Mostly it’s been sunny, cold at night, and relatively good fishing during the middle part of the day. I say relatively because it’s been hit and miss for me. Some days I’ve crushed it, and some days I haven’t. Yes, I did get skunked a few days and so did Elliot, literally. That seems to be the case when the river goes through these stagnant phases. What we need is some water and weather to change things up a bit. The same locals pounding the same runs every day will put the fish on lock down. Overcast days have been best, though there hasn’t been to many of those. Dry fly eats and some streamer eats on those overcast days. Look for the dry fly fishing to get really good here east of Reno during the next few months and same with the streamer fishing. If you are looking to float the river get on the good foot and give me a call. Rain is excepted this weekend and that will really help the fishing.

Pyramid Lake has been much like the Truckee River. High pressure= stagnant fishing. I spent much of my time during January on the river and did not make it out much to the lake. It has been mainly a first light and evening bite. There has been some really big fish caught in the afternoons over the last few weeks, mainly off the shooting heads on black buggers and popcorn beetles. Look for fishing to improve as we head into spring. We had a great clinic out at the lake yesterday with a 15 pounder and 10 pounder caught. Look for a few more clinics in the next couple of months.

I had a very busy January of guiding, thank you those that came out and fished with me. Maybe it was the smoking deal with the winter rates, or maybe the skiing sucked and there was nothing better to do. I’d like to stay busy so I’ll be offering some good deals for the month of February too. $250.00 for a half day, and $350 for a full day. I guide in Ca, and Nevada and all trips include flies.
