Truckee River Fishing Report- Pyramid Lake Fly Fishing Report- 3-4-15

H’mm models are pulling back a bit this morning on the precip that should be arriving next week. If we do not get any more snow/water this month we are screwed come this summer.

It has been cold this week on the Truckee River. 8 degrees this morning in the Hirsch. It is going to get warm though through this weekend. Mother Nature will once again slap us around with high pressure this week into next and daytime temps will be well above normal; which will make for good fishing. With the warm weather we should see some skawala stones later in the week- through Reno and maybe up to Truckee. Blue wings are out and about everyday, march browns should be around later in the month. Nymphing with the above patterns will do the trick, maybe you’ll get lucky and get some on top. We’re starting to get into that time that the dry dropper rigs get really fun to fish. Streamers, yes, of course anytime. Flows are still good for now. Low up top through Glenshire and higher as you go down the river below Boca.

Pyramid Lake is really starting to shape up for the annual great spring fishing. Pyramid Lake strain cutties are cruising in the shallows every day now. Sometimes you can rack up big numbers and sometimes you just miss it. Of course a little weather helps, wind, chop, cloud cover. We will not have that this week so you may need to fish early and late. Bobber fishing has been catching some big numbers of fish for folks out at the mid this last week. When you get the waves the bobber jigs those flies up and down and drives them crazy. Not the most dramatic way to fish, but very productive. Take that sucker off and fish without it, something we teach in our clinics.
