Very cool to cold fall weather in the Reno-Lake Tahoe-Truckee area.
The Pyramid Lake opener was epic. I will have a report in the next few days.
The Truckee River was absolutely on fire this weekend too. Rain and overcast made for some very good fishing. We had about 100 cfs flowing here in the Hirsch, and abut 130 cfs down in Farad. Blue wing olives galore. We got some on streamers, and dry flies, but most fish are gobbling up small mayfly nymphs. I am very relieved/ happy about the state of our fish. All the fish look healthy, and the numbers, and the big fish still seem to be here. I haven’t done any serious fishing or guiding on the river since late May, like I say, feeling good about the river again. I think most everyone has given up on the Truckee RIver this year, which is fine, but I’ve seen flows lower on the river in October on a good water year. Flows are best from Boca down to Verdi NV. Flows East of Verdi on the NV side are still to low to fish.
The dry fly fishing on the Little Truckee River was lights out too. Overcast gets them fish looking up. Low riding blue wing olives patterns are your friend out there.
October is a good month.
