Fly fishing at Pyramid Lake is just starting to get going. The first week after the opener was awesome, then it got a bit slow, it now seems to be going the other way again. Fish are still stuck in about 20-40 feet of water. The trollers are slaying them, the fly fisher, well, it’s almost our time. Float tubes and boats are still best to access deeper water, but the shore bite is getting better and a friend of mine got a 17 pounda the other day from shore. Minnow type patterns are still the most effective flies, but the big bait balls that I’ve seen the first few weeks are much fewer now. The weather is cooling and that will in turn cooler the water out at Pyramid and start moving fish closer to shore off the points and into the bay beaches. Remember Doug O and I have two clinics coming up on October 25th, and November 8th, or come out with your’s truly on a guided fly fishing trip at Pyramid Lake. Both ways are great to get introduced to Pyramid Lake on the fly.
