Pyramid Lake Fly Fishing Report 10-16-14

Finally some weather has rolled through the greater Lake Tahoe-Truckee-Reno area. Not much in the way of rain, but big winds, and a dent put in the high pressure system sitting off the West Coast. Big winds the last two days out at Pyramid Lake, so much so, it’s pretty much kept us off the water. Winds can get gnarly out there. Fish are still sitting in deeper water. 15-40 feet. Vertical jigging a Tui Chub pattern is still the way to go. Weather patterns are now in line for a good Pyramid bite. The cooler weather will lower the water temps and start moving fish closer into the beaches and in fly rod reach. Remember Doug O and I have a clinic next Saturday the 25th at Pyramid Lake and spots are still available.

The Little Truckee River:

Good, the dry fly fishing that is. This is the time of year you will see baetis hatching mid-day, daily. Go out and look for heads. Those fish aren’t the easiest to catch but on average they are larger on the LT than on the Truckee River. Shit that rides in the film is best, cripples, emerges, floating nymphs, etc. Fun time from now until about Thanksgiving out there.
