Truckee River Fishing Report 4-17-14

Continued warmer than average weather in the Lake Tahoe-Truckee-Reno are on the Truckee River. Blue bird days. Flows are up a bit, but nothing that bad really, rivers a little off color: for mid-April, the rivers in great shape. Skwalas, blue wings, and march browns, pop’n mid-day, daily. Nymphing with the above patterns will do the trick. Water temps are still cold, and it’s still somewhat cold at night – so it’s seeming mid-day is the best fishing. Dry dropper rigs, streamers, tight lining, indo’s, they all should work. Fish are spread out, fish it all, use multiple different styles, streamers up against the banks, big dries for those fish looking up, high stick’n for those fish in the fast water, and indicator fishing for the fish that you just can’t reach. Been a really good spring so far.
