After about a week hiatus from the Truckee River mainly from the nasty weather we’ve had here in Truckee-Tahoe, finally got back after it the last few days. Wind and snow is cool in the fall and winter, but in the spring it just doesn’t feel right, and all last week was pretty nasty. Best to fish Pyramid and move the guide trips there when the weather is nasty, because you pretty much always freeze your ass off, and you know the wind is going to bring in some fish. We did get much needed snow up top. 4-8 feet along most higher elevation passes. I think the Truckee River watershed is about 50% of normal now. Most ski resorts are at about 60% of normal. Even at 50% of normal we will still have some run-off, and I’m guessing we should be all right on the Truckee River flow wise going into late summer. Big sigh of relief for anglers up here. Mostly, I’ve been doing some streamer trips lately. The Truckee River is not known as a great steamer river, but it’s rad when folks want to stay committed. It’s great to see fish move off the banks and chase, a big whack once in a while, and maybe a good eat or a few. Wind again today, but looks like good weather through next week.
