Very warm weather and good fishing here on the Truckee River in the greater Lake Tahoe-Truckee-Reno area. Not that the hot weather is making the fishing good, but the hot weather really hasn’t affected the fishing that much as long as you’re hitting the river in the mornings. Afternoons, the water temps rise, wind picks up, and the fishing slows down. Crayfish, caddis, and stones, thoshould be your main bugs, they’ll eat anyone out of three. Crays make a big part of Truckee River trout’s diets during the summer months. You can dead drift them, or swing them, both ways produce. Pocket water is your friend. You need to understand how to read pocket and how to fish it, as the majority of fish are sucked up in the fast water. Flows have dropped a bit since my last report and actually they are more wader friendly thought the Hirsch and on down.
