TRUCKEE RIVER FLY FISHING: REPORT-3-7-22

TRUCKEE RIVER FLY FISHING: REPORT-3-7-22

Finally some weather, not much, but it’s sparked some good fishing on the Truckee River.

Rolling into March things always perk up a bit. It was a very cold January/ Feb. Clear sunny days, low clear and cold water. Now flows are up a bit on both sides of the river and March is starting off good. Remember, March is about the best dry fly month on the river if you can get some cloud cover. Practice your casting. We can’t get ‘em if you can’t cast ‘em.

So look for good blue wing hatches on cloudy days. Midges have been out in force, with a few fish eating on the clusters. Nymph with the above. Start thinking Skwala stones here shortly too. March is also a darn fine streamer month. We’ve gotten some bigs in March on both sides of the river. Hopefully we can get a few more big storms before winters done. Still some spots for the streamer class on the 19th.
