Finally some cold weather for the Truckee River.
Was a hot ass early fall. Now that we have some more typical fall weather, we can actually do some fall fishing. Meaning, you can target different types of water, and use different approaches.
It's below freezing at night, at least on the Ca side, so starting really early may not be best. Look for fish in softer water early. Frog water. As they move into faster water to feed when it warms, fish that water. Pretty much the same thing on the Nevada side. The exception is that is does not get nearly as cold at night.
Look for blue wings to be hatching regardless if it's cloudy or not on the Truckee River. Look for heads on the cloudy days. It's also a very good time to poke a bear on a streamer. Though post-spawn is better, pre-spawn can be good too.
