Truckee River Fly Fishing Report August 20 2022

Truckee River Brown Trout

August continues to impress on the Truckee River.

Historically, August has been a good month for me. Photo above is from an August past. Not so much the last few years. This year, it’s been different though. Not that hot, and overnight lows have been relatively cool, too cold.

These trouts are still munching on crayfish. Nymph up in the fast current, pocket water, and you should have success. ESN, or tight line nymphing, is the best rig.

Flows are still good, with a lot of cold water coming out of Boca. If you’re a smart angler, you may want to fish below Boca, on downriver.

From now until about November or so, fishing is best here on the Ca side, and West of Reno. This place will literally light up once it cools down more. Exciting times ahead. Fall is great.

The Nature Conservancy stuff on the lower river, will be fishing dependent on how cool the weather gets. Usually late September. December-March is when we get the big dogs streamer fishing down there.

If we could just now find Keily, and bring her home.
