Afternoon rain/ thunderstorms continue all over the Reno-Tahoe-Truckee area. All over the Eastern Sierra’s.That’s the story of our summer, and It’s saving our asses, keeping things wet and cool. We’ve made it through the hottest part of the summer and even if flows get lower on the Truckee River, it will be cool enough to support our trout.
I was over in Tahoe City the other day and took a look over Fanny Bridge. Most of the trout got relocated into Lake Tahoe a few months ago. They could not relocate all the fish/ catch. I was amazed to see about 20 big browns and rainbows were still hanging on, actually doing all right in that cesspool of a river below the dam. You’d be surprised how resilient these fish are.
Everyone has about one week until they put a cork in the Little Truckee River. Get out there now. Flows are about 120 cfs. Good trout fishing for all. Flows will come back up once the restoration work gets done.
Carp fishing is still the main gig for me on the lower Truckee River. Sight fishing for big carp, is, well, you’d have to do it to know what I’m talking about. I had 2 clinics the last 2 weekends. They were super fun for me. Challenging. Not sure if I could guide for carp everyday, but I’m used to getting my ass kicked from our trout on the Truckee River, now it’s carp I guess.
Remember, Pyramid Lake opens on October 1st. Doug O and I have a few clinics scheduled for the fall…
