Truckee River Fishing Report 1-3-15

We just thawed out here in the Hirsch, back into the 40’s again today. Looks like we got past the annual New Years cold snap. High pressure, warm sunny days + good flows = good winter fishing on the Truckee River. The outlook is we will once more have a dry January in Tahoe. Hard to imagine 7 out of the last 9 winters have seen below average precip, like none, in the Truckee- Tahoe area. We really need the snow, but I figure I can make lemonade out of lemons.

Fish the small stuff, midges, baetis, etc. Wait until it warms up a bit. Get a switch rod and swing through the deeper runs. Look for heads, trout eating midges and baetis, mid-day.

Please everyone pray for snow, the fishing with these warm temps will be great on the Truckee River, but there’s no way we will have any water this next summer unless we have a good snow pack- which we do not have right now.

Remember winter rates will still apply for this month. Pyramid clinic has a few spots left, and my switch clinic has 1 spot left.

Good to get back on the river guiding today. A week in Hawaii and then sub zero temps kept me off the river.
