Truckee River Fishing Report 10/9/13

Another small cold front with rain and snow today in the greater Truckee-Tahoe-Reno area. That makes three so far this fall. Hopefully we can get ourselves out of this drought. The fishing on the Truckee River is awesome right now. Big fish, small fish, just plane good. Short lining, streamering, indos, and dries will all get you some grabs. Baetis is on the top of the list. You will want nymphs and dries of both. There are some October caddis, some Mahogany duns, and of course stones and crays rounding it out. The streamer fishing can be good this time of year, last week I had an epic session. Fish are transitioning into different water types with the colder water temps. Where you found them this summer might not be where you’ll find them now. My fellow guide buddy Doug O and I had another successful nymphing clinic this past weekend with one more this weekend. It is hands down the most comprehensive one you’ll find. Look for a winter clinic and some other cool stuff to follow. While demonstrating to a student how to fish left handed-river left, Doug stuck this gal right here in the Hirsch.
