Feels a lot more like winter here in the greater Truckee-Tahoe-Reno area on the Truckee River. This last weeks storm system gave us a little snow and kept daytime temps relatively cold. That has lowered water temps and put fish on the transition. Probably best to change up your game plan from summer time tactics to more winter time tactics. Trout will move into slower water with colder water temps. They also like to feed on smaller stuff, midges, small baetis, etc. Not to say that they don’t eat big stuff too, but the bulk of their diet is simply what is available, and small stuff is readily available. Flows are great in both states, and the fishing is remaining pretty good. Bundle up and get out and do some fishing.
