We finally got completely dumped on in the greater Lake Tahoe-Truckee-Reno area. It rained hard for three days here in the Hirsh. The Truckee River did get up to around 1200 cubes or so, but has crested and is on the way down. This was much needed water to help fill up Prosser, Boca, and Stampede reservoirs where much of our water for the Truckee River comes from. Donner Lake will fill, Lake Tahoe will take a while, but did come up some. This storm pretty much saved us. We’ll get some more storms and our watershed will be o.k. Whats this mean for fishing? It’s going to be good to great in a few days. All the river will fish well, both states. It’ll take longer to clear in the lower-lower reaches of the river, so fish up higher. If you’re looking for a float trip the water will now be floatable again in the beats of the river I guide. Nothing like a good flushing for the Truckee River.
Pyramid Lake: This series of storms has helped the fishing on Pyramid with some big fish being caught. It’s in winter mode so you may not hook many fish in a day, but sometimes they will be big. Stripping buggers and popcorn beetles, or fishing nymphs/midges under an indo are the way to go. Pick a beach with the wind blowing in on you.
