Really feeling like things area about to go off here on the Truckee River in the greater Lake Tahoe-Truckee-Reno area. It’s almost mid-may, but it’s really like mid-June, the way the river looks and is fishing and behaving. Every year after run-off, typically mid to late June, or after the 4th of July, the river lowers, clears and fishes very well. That’s kinda happening right now, or should happen very soon. The river is still pretty big from Hirschdale and down in through Nevada. 800 cubes here in the Hirsch, over 1000 in the really lower stuff-Nature Conservancy. That’s big even on a non drought year. Up above the inlet of the LT at Boca, the river is a little more tame. This is my favorite time. Bigger water, big bugs, (we’ll see drakes and carpenter ants soon), green hills, cottonwoods all budded out, and caddis right around the corner. Love it up here right now.
