This is it, the great early summer fishing we get every year on the Truckee River, little earlier this year, but here. We had a rain/ snow snap this week, but now the weather has cleared and the river is about to explode with bugs, and good fishing. Pale Morning Duns seem to be the bug of choice, nymphs-dries. Goldens, sallies, and drakes should be just around the corner. Be nymphing up on them with those patterns now, think Pat’s Rubberleggs, My Skipper Stone, Burk’s HBI, PT’s, Doug O’s Sweat Pea, etc. Attracter nymphs and dries work good this time of year too. Princes, Copper Johns, Chubby’s, Stimi’s etc. I have more specific patterns sold at the old Mountain Hardware in Truckee too. The big Hydropsyche, and Rhyacophila Caddis hatches should start if we have a week of solid warm weather. Don’t trip on those fancy names just go get some G-6’s and you’ll be fine. Should be a banner weekend here in Tahoe-Truckee, weather is great and the rivers are good to go.
