Halfway done with August, I’m ready for summer to end and fall to begin.
There are a few sections of the Truckee River right now that are good to fish, (water temp and flows wise). Most sections are not ok to fish. Overnight lows have cooled the water dramitaclly into the morning hours. 58 when I took a temp Saturday at 11:00. I would still say wait on fishing the Truckee River for the time being. There will be a point when fishing the river will be ok again. The court of public opinion, and what the thermometer, and what the flows say are two different things. Of course flows will be an issue on many sections of the river even when the water temp cools. No one wants to shoot fish in a barrel. Some parts of the river will not be fishable until the fall rains come, even if water temps allow.
Flows on the Little Truckee River have not dropped to the minimum low of 14 fs, yet. Flows are 39 cfs out there today. The river is still fishable at those flows, but check the gauges before you go. 14 cfs is not fishable. If you want to do a solid come help with the spawning gravel project this Saturday. Free beer afterwards too.
I’m hoping to get a descent fall going here. Fishing will be good out on the LT, mainly dry fly fishing. I will also be guiding a few sections of the Truckee River again. Also, Pyramid Lake will open on October 1st.
