Truckee River Fishing Report 9/7/12

Labor Day weekend has come and gone, the unofficial end of summer. The beginning of good fall fishing on the Truckee River has begun. Flows are still up 250 cfs through Truckee, 480 through Hirschdale, and about 350 in and outside of Reno. Look for the water to get drastically low through Truckee down to the inlet of the Little Truckee River at Boca in a matter of days. Releases will cease out of Tahoe. Flows will stay up below Boca thanks to the inflow of the Little Truckee River. Nymphing with golden stones, and small baetis droppers have been good. Streamer fishing should be good from now through fall too. Swinging streamers through big buckets catches a lot of big brown trout up here in the fall months. We are still transitioning from summer to fall. The bug menu is small right now, but as it cools more look for good hatches of baetis, and October Caddis. Tested out my new raft frame today through the miracle mile, thank you Recretec, and put a few nice fish in the net. If you haven’t fished the Truckee then get up here this fall.
