Looks like the heat wave is on the way out. Hasn't been that hot of a Summer on the Truckee River. In fact, California experienced it's coldest Summer in 30 years.
The fishing has been consistently good. Good if you know and can find the proper water to fish this time of year. Helps if you can wade decently. Trouts are in current and you have to get in there.
Truckee River trout will and always have been tuff. It takes some dedication and practice to master this river. Even then, you're still learning. It's not a trout factory like the Lower Sac, or Green River or something, but with the correct rigs and guide it can get close. Plan your trip accordingly. If you want to catch a shit ton of fish on bobbers go somewhere where you can catch a shit ton of fish on bobbers. Don't come here, catch a few fish, and be disappointed.
Trouts are still eating crayfish. This is the time of year when the baby crayfish really come into play. Look for the faster oxygenated water. If you get out early, swim them crayfish like a steamer, notice, I didn't say swing. More on that later.
