Hot is the word on the Truckee River. Big heat wave all over the West right now.
Get your asses out there early if you want any good trout fishing. The window is early and not for long. Meaning after about 11:00, put a fork in it.
(Trout are cold blooded creatures. They need cold clean water. When the water gets above a certain temperature, say 67, the fish you catch in that water will likely swim off and die. It's like if you ran a marathon in the heat, and stopped, and then ran another one. Not good. Your body has no time to recover, and you'd likely die of a heat stroke. Same with trout.)
Next week things look to cool down. Going to get interesting with the super El Niño and what's going on with that. I think we will have a wet Fall. Maybe an early wet Fall, fingers crossed. We're only a few weeks way from much colder overnight low temps. That will spark up some better fishing. We'll be in the upper 30's overnight very soon.
Right now get out early. Nymph or whatever you do, and get done earlier than you normally would.
In Reno, I wouldn't even fish it right now. It's almost Sacto hot in Reno. 97-100. Wait for it to cool down some, won't be long. Reno is one of the fastest warming cities in the country. Have a feeling in 25 yrs those trout could be fucked. Who knows, those Reno trout are very resilient, they've made it through some pretty crazy droughts.
