Coming out of the cold snap on the Truckee River.
Teens still in the mornings, but a nice warmup in the afternoons, and more warmth on the way. Hopefully, next week we can welcome some storms back in.
Been cold and dry. This week looks to warm, and by Thanksgiving, highs will be in the 50’s in Truckee. Probably be a good week to fish.
Hit them trouts on the head. water temps are cold, both in Ca, and on the Nevada side of the river. Good news is the big fish gotta eat everyday, they need the calories. Bad news is, the little ones don’t. Expect your winter trout that you do catch to be bigger than in Summer. Expect to catch whitefish.
They like worms and eggs, and small shit, like zebra midges, and any kind of small black mayfly. Fish the frog water until it warms, and then try some riffles, to see if fish have moved in to feed. Pull some streamers, and see if you can get a big fish out of their winter funk. It works.
Flows are still pretty descent, but I’m waiting for those big chocolate milk winter days.
