Truckee River Fly Fishing Report October 2 2022

Fall fly fishing on the Truckee River.

Good fishing and great weather. Maybe a little too great with the weather, lol. High’s in the low 70’s, perfect blue bird days. Us fly anglers, always like some clouds and rain. I’ll take this weather any day though, soon it will be cold.

Flows have just dropped some out of Boca Reservoir. 388 cfs here in Hirschdale this morning. Down from 450 cfs, last week. This is more normal October flows. it was 75 cfs, this time last year. Higher as you go down through Farad, and lower in Reno. It’s always a bit weird with with the river/flows, with Reno taking out water in the canals. We’re sill doing pretty good in the flows department.

Be nymphing with blue wing olives, smaller golden stones, and crayfish still. if it does get cloudy, look for a mix of blue wings, and mohaganny duns. Get your streamer rod fired up and ready, it’s just about time.

This is it folks. October is here and this is the time to get your Fall fishing in. It don’t last long.
