Truckee River Fishing Report 2-18-14

Feeling like there’s not a whole lot left of winter here on the Truckee River in the greater Lake Tahoe-Truckee-Reno area. The rivers been fishing like a mid-April feel instead of mid-February. At least next month will be spring and we can write this winter off. We’re lucky we got what we got rain and snow wise last week. I think it should be enough to fill up Boca and Stampede, at least enough to keep the river going this summer. With that being said, fishing wise the river is really good right now. The bugs haven’t started yet, but that’s right around the corner. Blue wings will be out in force, especially on the lower sections of river East of Reno. It’s an impressive hatch and something to get excited about. We’ll also get some Skwala stones going here soon too. The river has a kind of off colored steelhead look to it right now with the warm afternoons melting some snow. Nymphing both tight line and indo are working in a variety of water, not just the slow stuff. Streamer fishing has been pretty good too. Get out and enjoy.
