Pyramid Lake Nevada Fly Fishing Report 10-22-14

The tides are turning out at Pyramid Lake in Nevada and the fly fishing is going to get much better. Why? Well, because the 10 day forecast calls for cold and otherwise shitty weather. We are stoked. Right now water temps are still on the warmer side out at Pyramid, but the cold weather  coming will start pushing fish into the bay beaches and in fly rod reach. Right now the majority of fish are in 20-40 feet of water. You will find fish coming in closer and even deeper at times. Jigging still seems the way to go, and the usual Pyramid Lake staple flies are working. Popcorn beetles, midnight cowboys, all the usual suspects. The big bait balls of Tui Chub just aren’t on the scene like in the first few weeks of the opener and hence the big olive and white streamers haven’t been as successful, at least for me. The beach bite will pick up and we are right on the cusp when fish will be cruising the shelf off the beaches all day long. Get the neoprenes out and ready because it’s going to get cold and the fishing is going to be awesome.
