Truckee River Fly Fishing Report-7-17-22

Euro Nymphing Truckee River

Good flows and solid fishing on the Truckee River.

No smoke yet this Summer. That’s been the big thing for us. Last Summer was bad. Fingers crossed, we’ll keep dodging the bullet. Not that hot either. Low 80’s in Truckee ain’t bad.

Flows have been good on the Truckee River. About 300 cubes coming out of the dam at Lake Tahoe. Around 450 cubes here in the Hirsch. Nice good wading flows so you can get in that pocket water where trouts live in Summer.

Lots of big stones and crayfish in the river. Pretty typical Summer food fare for our fish. We ain’t gotta ton of fish on the Truckee, but we got some dam big fish. They get big because they have a lot of food.

it just depends on how hard you wanna get ’em. If you can wade and get in the fast water, you’ll end up doing well. I feel not a lot of anglers, or guides for that matter, really understand that. Most folks are walking past the water that’s good. It takes a long time to figure it out. I’m still finding little fast water nooks on the river that I’ve walked by in years past.
