Truckee River Fly Fishing Report August 17 2022

Continued solid fishing on the Truckee River. Nice and cool in the mornings, and warm, too hot, in the afternoons. Typical August weather.Mornings to mid-mornings are best, unless you have a good cloudy t-storm day. We’ve had a few of those lately. The best fishing has been about, 9-11 for me. Seems like that’s always about the best window, regardless any month in the summer. You get out at the crack of dawn sometimes, and it’s slow, until them fish feel like feeding. Of course, the big hunters, predatory fish, have probably already fed. They move into the water we’re nymphing too though. I guess they like a mid-morning snack sometimes.

Still crayfish on the brain for Truckee River trouts. Every single fish I’ve gotten over 20″ inches lately, all ate the cray. You can actually fish them year round on this river. They molt several times a year, and become very alluring to our trout.

I sill have some spots for this Sundays, Tight Line Nymph Clinic.
